United Van Lines - Roy Caton
Balloon Sponsored by United Van Lines
The first three years were spent flying for fun and accruing enough hours to qualify for a job as a professional balloon pilot. In 1982 he started his career as a full-time pilot for The Balloon Inc., soon to become the largest corporate balloon company in the country.
In the last 21 years, Caton has traveled through all 48 continental states and Canada, and has flown in most of those. During that time he drove over one million miles and has flown more than 2000 hours. Almost half of those hours have been in special shape balloons. His most memorable flights include a flight to 22,000 feet in 1984 and several competitive flights where he was luck enough to find himself closer to the target than the other pilots.
1998 saw the addition of a fixed-wing rating to his pilot certificate; a move he feels has improved his overall abilities as a balloon pilot. In 2002, along with two of the best corporate balloon pilots in the country, Caton started Flying Logos. They intend to apply all they have learned in the last 20 years to running the best corporate balloon programs possible. They proudly represent two of the best companies in America: United Van Lines and Energizer Batteries.
